The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at The Portal Group (Torrance, CA)
Interview
I had a phone interview followed up by an in person interview that consisted of meeting with various people. One meeting was 1:1, another was a panel of TPG staff, another was with the client and TPG staff.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at The Portal Group (Torrance, CA) in June 2015
Interview
Phone Interview with department hiring manager went really well, she was very down to earth, easy to talk to. After some brief questions about my background she got into details of the position and then asked me some more specifics about my past roles. A couple days later I was contacted by the initial recruiter and scheduled to come in for face to face interviews.
I interviewed with 2 department heads, and a marketing manager. First department head was late to the interview, and seemed very disengaged from the process. He asked some very specific questions that seemed to relate to their business process, but not really common for software development. I had a tough time connecting with him. 2nd department head asked no tough questions, although he was very obviously not happy with the company, and seemed as if he was trying to talk me out of wanting the position. Marketing Manager was very nice, and the interview was really easy, no real job related questions.
I left feeling confused about the company, and not all that excited about the proposition of working there. That being said, they never even called or emailed back to let me know the status of the interview process. I even followed-up with the recruiter numerous times after that and he never responded.
Very unprofessional from start to finish. I'm glad I didn't get the job. I found out later through a friend, the marketing manager quit a couple weeks later, and said most of the employees are very unhappy.
