      Anonymous Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Y (YMCA) in Nov 2019

      Interview

I applied online through their website, did a phone interview with the hiring manager not long after, complete a project, and finally an onsite that lasted a little over an hour. The phone interview, project, and onsite were standard. The aspect of the whole process that I found to be unorthodox was the number of references they requested, when they checked references, and how most of the interview process was conducted. They ask for 6 references. That's more than the standard 2-3. I didn't mind getting the additional 3 amongst my past supervisors/co-workers, but it was when they checked references that really bothered me. They checked them before my onsite as opposed to after my onsite and traditionally speaking, potentially being offered the position. My references told me that they had to fill out a lengthy survey that included some non-related odd questions. They asked for 6 references, I gave them 7, yet they still asked for 1 more, making it a total of 8. In a nutshell, I was not offered the position but I wasn't disappointed about that. I was way more disappointed in the fact that they wasted all of my references' times. It's one thing for me to put in time and effort, but to waste my references' time, people I'd like to use for future jobs, is not cool. Overall, the whole process was disorganized and needs improvement for better future hiring. Looking back, I'm relieved I didn't get an offer because their hiring process said a lot about them as an organization.

      Question 1

Tell me about yourself. What's accomplishment are you most proud of? What's your most embarrassing moment? (That last question was strange).
