      Payroll Assistant Interview

      14 Mar 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Sunnyvale, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at TheKey (Sunnyvale, CA) in Mar 2019

      Interview

I have about two years of experience in the HR field, and payroll processing was part of my job. A recruiter called me regarding a Payroll Assistant position in Sunnyvale. So, I had my first interview with the VP of the Finance department. It was a terrible experience. They were very unprofessional. When I entered the room, three ladies were sitting down. No one shook hands. They didn’t even introduce themselves. First interview question-- why are you here? I talked about my education and experience. Then, I explained how I want to become a payroll manager in the future. After the interview, the lady asked me if I have any questions. I had two questions from them. 1. Before I come to this interview, I read positive comments about employees who work for this company. How do you feel working for this company? How do you like it? I was shocked when she jumped into my conversation and asked do you have another question? I said yes, and I asked: 2. Are there any great opportunities for growth? She didn't answer any of my questions. Instead, she said, I think you came to the wrong department for an interview. This is a Finance department. You have to go to the HR department since you have an HR background. You are not the right candidate for the Payroll position. I didn’t say anything and left. I think the level of professionalism is very important to keep the organizational culture alive. With the respect that I have for the CEO and the rest of the employees who work for this company, I didn’t see that respect from the interviewers. And even if they think that a candidate doesn’t have the right knowledge and experience for a specific job, he/she still should be treated with respect.
