      Maintenance Supervisor Interview

      27 Apr 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Timken in Mar 2012

      Interview

I was initially contact by telephone for a phone screen. All went well and then I was setup to do a phone interview with an HR Manager. The HRM called nearly an hour later than the appointment apologizing stating she had forgotten about the interview and assured me that was not the way Timken did things. The phone interview lasted about 45 minutes and I was asked to phone interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager called me a few days later and we spoke for nearly an hour. Nothing outside of normal interview questions. I was then asked to come on site and do a panel interview. When I arrived to the facility 15 minutes early for my appointment, I waited on the HR manager for nearly 30 minutes. I was then given the application and other paperwork to fill out while waiting. I finished the paperwork and waited nearly another 30 minutes before being taken into the offices for the panel interview. The panel interview went well, again no odd questions. Most of the questioning was behavioral based and what if scenarios. There was a general sense of disorganization as to who was asking what questions from the panel members. Several awkward silences or coaching from the HRM as to who was to ask what next. The impression was that there was a breakdown in communication and lack of preparedness before my arrival. I then interviewed with solely the hiring manger and we spent well over an hour doing a tour and speaking about the responsibilities and duties that I would be doing. Again, no odd questioning, pretty normal interview questions. There were some technical questions but not nearly as many as I expected. I left the interview feeling very positive. I was ensured that I would be contacted either way by the end of the following week. I sent a follow up email to the panel and others when I returned home thanking them for their time and the opportunity. I received no responses. I was really confident when the HRM requested a connection on LinkedIN shortly after the interview. Three weeks went by and I had heard nothing. I decided it was time to contact Timken for a follow up. I tried calling the HRM and left a message. I sent an email to the HRM and the hiring manager as well. I received no responses. I waited another week and tried to call the hiring manager and left a message, still no response. Eventually, after a 5 weeks, it is obvious there wasn't going to be an offer, so I stopped worrying about it. I felt TImken's actions were very unprofessional, unorganized, and insulting to a job seeker. I will think twice about interviewing with this company again.
