I recently interviewed for a marketing position at Toptal, and unfortunately, my experience was far from professional. The process started off on a wrong note with the scheduling of the interview itself. Despite confirming the interview time twice, the interviewer was over 30 minutes late without any prior notice or apology. When the interview finally began, it felt rushed and disorganized.
The interviewer seemed unprepared and continuously confused my background with another candidate's, which made it clear that they hadn't reviewed my resume or notes beforehand. Questions were generic and seemed to be pulled up on the spot, which didn't allow for any meaningful discussion about my skills or how I could contribute to Toptal's goals.
Additionally, the role's responsibilities were described differently than in the job description, which was confusing and made me question the internal communication within the company. No clear timeline was provided for the hiring process, and when I asked about next steps, the responses were vague.
Overall, I was left with a poor impression of Toptal's professionalism and organization. I expected a company of its reputation to have a more structured and respectful approach. This experience has definitely made me reconsider whether I would want to be part of this organization.
