I applied in-person. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (Saint Louis, MO) in Oct 2009
Interview
I filled out an application at the store and, upon completion, answered a few questions from a shift manager (Full-Time Crew Member). I was told that if I had the time, I would be interviewed by the assistant manager (First Mate) then and there. This interview, which included the First Mate and a Full-Timer, lasted approximately 40 minutes and included questions about my experience, schooling (even though I had graduated from college 20 years earlier) and I was given a number of different scenarios and asked how I would respond to each. About 2 hours later, I received a call inviting me back for a second interview which took place the next day. This was conducted by the general manager (Captain) and the First Mate. This interview lasted about 30 minutes and was similar to the first with some variation in the questions. An hour after the interview I received a call and was offered the job.

The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (Sterling, VA) in Aug 2024
Interview
I was not hired! It was a new store so it was a very competitive position. I was emailed the day after my application, but denied shortly after the call. I am under the assumption that this location prefers experienced people.

Submitted an application in person. The manager who accepted the application asked me about favorite Trader Joe's products. Later received a call asking if would like to interview. Was interviewed by two managers, fairly low key but professional.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (New York, NY) in Dec 2017
Interview
Rigorous process. 2 separate interviews first with a manager and the final with the store captain. Overall the process took about 2 weeks. But also took a little bit to hear back from when I dropped off my resume.
