I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (Staten Island, NY) in Aug 2016
Interview
The interview is conducted in three stages -- an on the spot, a primary and a secondary. The on the spot is a screening question to assess your preparedness (i.e. commitment level), and to get a rough feel for your personality. It is usually only one or two questions. The primary interview is conducted with one of the managers, and will focus on assessing your experience, your competence with customers, and your fit with the overall values of the company. If your interview shows promise, you will be asked back for a second interview with a different manager, and they will ask another round of questions that build on the former interview. You will then be contacted with either an offer or a moratorium of three months after which you may apply again.

Question 1
Describe a time you had an unhappy customer, and what you did to improve their experience
It's two to three interviews, the final with the Captain (or highest manager) of the store. The interviews are largely to get to know your personality and how well you would do at customer service.
The interview process was absolutely wonderful! I didn't feel stressed or nervous and it felt like I was just chatting with a friend! Trader Joes is a great company and the interview was great.
Very chill, asked things a lot of job interviews don't, more personal down to earth questions. Made me feel very comfortable. Professional but also cool vibes from everyone who interviewed me. Went to one interview with mates and another with the captain.
