      Crew Interview

      21 June 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Metairie, LA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (Metairie, LA) in June 2022

      Interview

There is a two-interview process to be hired at Trader Joes. The initial interview went fine; it was held in a broom closet, which was pretty grim, but the employees interviewing me were cheerful and kind. They told me they'd give me a call in the next day or two to let me know if I was selected for a second interview. Four days later--haven't heard anything. I call THEM and they say oh, yeah, you are on the list for a second interview (good thing I called, I guess?)--they tell me to call back Monday to schedule it. I call Monday. They take my name and number, tell me they'll call me that day. (They do not.) I call Tuesday. Again, they take my name and number and tell me they'll call me that day. (They do not.) I call Thursday, at this point quite irritated at how inexplicably disorganized they seem to be. They take my name and number and tell me they'll call me that day. As per usual, they do not. Friday I went into the store, exasperated, just wanting to know either way whether or not I should continue my job search elsewhere. They tell me my interview is at the "top of the pile" and that someone will call me. Later that day, someone does call me and schedules my second interview. Second interview goes very well; they are very upbeat and clearly very enthusiastic about their company. At the end of the interview (again held in the broom closet), I ask if I can expect to hear back from them within the next week or two. Oh god, no, they say; we will call you tomorrow afternoon either way. They called a week and a half later to tell me they did not select me for the position. An incredibly infuriating and unprofessional process. This could have been SO much simpler and easier. I'm baffled at how disorganized they seem to be at this store.

      Easy interview

      Application

I interviewed at Trader Joe's (Santa Cruz, CA)

      Interview

1 phone call, two in person, never got the job. Short and simple interview, the third one was long but it was just the employee yapping about the job and what they do. Pretty lame considering they already knew they weren’t going to hire me. Said they were gonna call me and never did. Just call and say that you don’t wanna hire me and move on, how hard is that?

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me about yourself (classic). Why Trader Joe's, tell me about a time where you provided excellent service, etc pretty basic and easy questions.

      Interview

Applications in my area are accepted in-person and online. I'd applied online. There were two interviews: one with two mates (supervisors) and one with the captain (store manager). Communication was excellent; I was not left waiting long, though I do not recall exact timeframes. I am not sure how to speak to interview difficulty. Compared to what? Two interviews is 'easy' compared to other processes I have gone through. The care going into the decision was just as careful though, it seems to me. So, 'difficult'. Questions were largely in the behavioral category, and it helped to have a few examples in mind. So, 'average'.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Of course, they wanted to see how I'd handled various challenges in the past. While both interviews wanted to feel out if I (and my availability) would be a good fit, they were also intentional about prompting me to think about if they would be a good fit for me. I do not remember the exact questions asked.
