      Software Engineer Interview

      8 Oct 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Trainual in Sept 2021

      Interview

A recruiter reached out to me 4-5 times, so I finally looked into the company and responded. It was a nice initial chat with her, but I then spoke to a couple engineers from the team and it was utterly drab - it felt like they googled "bad interview questions" and read them off one by one, sometimes seemingly rewording one they already asked. They sent me a rejection a couple hours after, no surprises there and I certainly wouldn't have moved forward myself, but eek what a gross hour long experience!

      Question 1

How do you communicate with non-technical coworkers? Give me an example of a time your ideas were rejected and how did you respond?

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Trainual (Atlanta, GA) in Feb 2022

      Interview

My experience talking with Marlowe, the internal engineering recruiter was perhaps the best I've had. She answered any questions I had promptly and thoroughly via text, email, links to well written engineering resources, and even videos recorded specifically for me. She has raised the bar on what I expect from a recruiter.

      Question 1

Who did you communicate with outside of your team in your previous role before being a software developer?

      Interview

The people at Trainual are AMAZING! I highly encourage anyone who values culture, diversity/inclusion, and being part of a growing company to apply. I had an initial conversation with the People Ops Generalist and was very encouraged. Each of the next people I spoke with were equally great. I met with two engineers then the Director and VP of Engineering. I was excited about the prospect of working with every single person I spoke with. I did not continue with the last step of the interviews only because of some needs in my personal life that I needed to prioritize. Otherwise, I would have leapt at the opportunity to work here. They answered all of my questions and took an extra meeting with me in order to help me evaluate my needs and see if there was a good fit. When I chose to withdraw they were professional and supportive in addition to welcoming me to reach out if this fit changes in the future.

      Question 1

There were a combination of personality and technical questions.
