not a formal interview, just a short talk about my projects and introduce what I need to learn. I talked with him for a while, and I think that was a good talk. The expected time was 30 min, but we talked for an hour

Application process, you apply to grad school, they review the application and you get an admit/reject based on that. They look for GPA, publications and strong reco letters.
