      Senior Product Designer Interview

      7 Sept 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at UNiDAYS (London, England)

      Interview

The worst hiring process I have EVER experienced! I applied for the senior product designer role via Linkedin and was contacted two weeks after by the hiring manager for an initial chat. I progressed to the next stage to be interviewed by the senior product designer on the team and lead designer. All went well, and I progressed to the 2nd stage. For the 2nd stage, I was asked to complete a task. This is where communication completely failed. Firstly, they said this task would take no more than 3 hours, which was unrealistic because of the amount of work they requested. To do this task justice you would probably need a good few days. Before confirming my presentation date with the team, I contacted the hiring manager to ask about the salary for the role. I explained that I would be completing the task at an extremely high level and wanted to make sure that if I received an offer the salary would meet my expectations. Never received a reply or any acknowledgment to that email. I went ahead and confirmed the presentation interview anyway and completed the task. A week later I attend the video meeting with the task completed and NO ONE SHOWED UP. I contacted the hiring manager to ask what had happened. It took her 3 days to get back to me, and her excuse was, their booking system for interviews were down. Pathetic! She said she would reschedule another time to present, but asked me beforehand to sent over my completely task. This arouse my suspicions because she wouldn’t reschedule another time to present without me sending over the completed task. Due to me being burnt in the past with my work being plagiarised by companies that ask for a task in the interviewing process, I sent over the completed task as a password protected PDF. She came back immediately and asked me for the password but still hadn’t scheduled a time for me to present. I then explain to her my past negative experiences with completing tasks for other companies, and in the same email I sent a small contract that stated they were not to use my work or any versions of it without my consent. She then said she would contact her manager to discuss this further and I never heard from her again. Even after contacting her several times via email I never received a reply or any acknowledgement. It seems to me that I dodged a bullet with this company. I had my suspicions that maybe there was no role at all and they were just interviewing candidates in order to get ideas from designers. I would strongly advise that anybody applying for a job with Unidays that they do not send over any work or complete any tasks. You will not get the job and probably a few weeks later you’ll see your work in their live campaigns.
