I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at US Geological Survey (Golden, CO) in Mar 2017
Interview
I applied through the USAJobs government website after hearing about the intern position at my school's career fair. About a week after applying online, I was emailed by someone working at the USGS, requesting an interview. I interviewed with two different research groups while at the USGS office. The office atmosphere is really laid back; I was honestly overdressed wearing a suit and tie.
Everyone at the office was pleasant to interview with. I would recommend focusing on making a connection with one or more interviewers, rather than just trying to express your skills and talents. One of my interviewers and I got side tracked talking about the Boy Scout program, and I think that actually really helped me. Overall, the in person interview process took me about an hour.
About two weeks after applying, I was contacted by HR with an offer.
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at US Geological Survey (Golden, CO) in Mar 2017
Interview
Applied online and received a phone interview, followed by an in person interview at the USGS office where I would work. The phone interview was conducted by a supervisor, and the in person interview was conducted by a Senior Researcher (Geophysics) and a direct supervisor. Both interviews were behavioral, and you were expected to explain your prior experiences, as well as your goals for the internship.

The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at US Geological Survey (Reston, VA) in June 2015
Interview
The interview was very easy. I was only asked about the softwares that I know and the courses I have taken. The position only required a phone interview. I was also asked if I can hike up a mountain with equipment in hand. I answered yes to all the questions and elaborated about my experience.
