I applied at Ulta for the position of Beauty Advisor online and I got a call about a week later asking me to come in for an interview. To prepare for the interview, I did a lot of research about the company and I reviewed the typical job interview questions. I made sure that my makeup and hair were done well, I dressed professionally, and I wore all black - the employee dress code. The interview was a small group interview with two managers and two potential employees (including myself). Most of the questions were based on situations and past work experience. I have worked at two different retail jobs in the past, so that made it easier. One of the managers talked very loudly and quickly and seemed very aggressive to me. She described the job I was interviewing for as being very fast-paced, physically demanding, and intense. I won't go into details, but based on certain things she said, it really seemed like she didn't care about her employees. I felt like I did well in the interview, but I had a realization that the job was not what I had expected or hoped it would be and I think that showed. At the end of the interview, we talked about my desired salary and my schedule. What I had to say didn't really didn't matter because I was told that I would have to compromise on both. Basically I learned that I would need to be available to work at least 6 days of the week and I would be paid barely over minimum wage. I didn't feel like I was asking for too much. Their lack of flexibility and how little they seemed to care about their employees really turned me off to the job.

You're asked about your previous work experience and if you have any transferrable skills to contribute to the workplace. Personality alignment and foreign languages were mentioned as well. They asked me about scheduling preferences and gave me a date for training.
