I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Uncommon Goods
Interview
Long , is the only way to describe this process , I first started communicating with the team on April and found out a few weeks ago ( July !) that they went with another candidate .
The process consisted of 5 different interviews plus a project , the project spec was poorly written and confusing ( I do not think that anyone from senior management reviewed the spec before it was passed along ). I actually emailed the HR team to see how the spec would relate to the position that I was hiring for bc the instructions were so convoluted .
The months long and many interviews were red flags to me , it showed a company that seemed disorganized and unsure of what they were looking for in a candidate , it’s also disrespectful of candidate's time to draw out the interview process . Especially when someone is unemployed or having to take time off work to accommodate the many interviews .
For one of my in person interviews , I was suppose to meet with 5 people in one day , the first two people switched to online, when I asked if I could take those interviews from somewhere in there office , they said no , I could take them outside their building & than come upstairs .. .. which was another red flag to me .
During my interviews I had asked the hiring manager what her management style was and how she likes to run her team , she couldn’t give a clear answer and it became very apparent that this would be the first time managing a team for her , which was another red flag .
When U.G finally let me know that they weren’t moving on with me , the hiring manager included a really strange note in the email , which I think was suppose to encouraging ? But instead came across extremely condescending and swarmy . I had already accepted a new position several weeks before receiving the letter , I hope that UG takes this feedback into consideration and works to improve this process .

I was brought in for two rounds, both virtual. Everyone I met with was extremely attentive, clear, kind, and seemed to enjoy working for the company. The process took over a month and since I was brought in on the earlier side, HR mentioned wanting to fast-track me to the next steps.
After having positive experiences and investing time in the process, receiving a canned rejection email was incredibly disappointing. If candidates are meeting and communicating with multiple team members, write a personal rejection.
