I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Union Pacific (Omaha, NE) in July 2012
Interview
There was a preliminary phone interview conducted due to the fact I lived out of state. I had to follow up on this interview to get feedback to which I was told that they were going to hire me. Then a week later I was told that they wanted to conduct a in-person working interview. They flew me out and it went very well. At the conclusion of the interview, I was told that they would be in contact with me. It took them over a month to finally get me an offer and an additional 2 months to finally start work.

It was a technical question concerning radio frequency attenuation.
Found out after the fact that from one of the interviewers that I was strongest candidate but there was a debate over hiring me due to my older age (late 40). Was also told that those wary of hiring me later admitted I was a good hire.

How I handled a difficult situation and/or person.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Union Pacific (Omaha, NE) in May 2015
Interview
The Interview process was simple and quick. I was recommended by a UP employee. The interview was more of a formal process other than anything else. It seemed that they needed employees at that time and they had already made up their mind before I was even interviewed.
