      Software Engineer (Mid-level) Interview

      2 Feb 2022

      Helsinki, Southern Finland
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Unity (Helsinki, Southern Finland) in Nov 2021

      Interview

Quite lengthy process but its probably because I was interviewed during Chrismas/NYE. Great thanks to my recruiter. Very helpful and responsive guy. Overall there are 5 round as you can find on their website. However this really depends on Teams and location. R1: Recruiter calls. General Get-To-Know question and some light technical stuff. Duration: 30 min. R2: HiringManager/Teamlead call: Some more get to know questions, some behavior stuff and some more light technical/workflow related question. R3: This comprise of 2 parts: A codility online assessment and a Take Home Asignment. For Codility, 2 question in 70 minutes for my case. Difficulty is about LC Medium or 800 codeforce. Beware that the platform may not have your prefered language or uptodate version of it. The assignment is usually design a prototype components. This include testing and some benchmark for my case. R4: "final interview". I met with 3 engineers and we went through a whole arrays of question. Some are behavior (STAR format), some are job-related technical question, and also your homework in previous round. It really threw me off at this round as I was expecting some FAANG like interview format. Surprisingly, there was no coding interview and the "high-level design" we did was more of a discussion rather than an interview. There was some technologies specific questions that I stumbled but overall it went ok. R5: right after r4, I hopped on a call with my recruiter and we try to get the reference down as fast as possible as it was very near Chrismas at that time. You will have a reference from 2 of your previous manager and 2 of your peers. They will contact untill they get at least 2 responds from the list you provided. Couple of weeks later (this is mainly due to the Chrismas/NYE breaks + covid stuff), I got on a call with the hiring manager and we talked about my interview experience and after that on the same day the recruiter told me I got accepted. No negotiation rooms for the salary but the stock is huge which gives the total compensation a huge bump compared to an average company in the region.
