After application to the PI by mail (with resume & cover letter) I have received an invitation for the interview. The interview was held (oversees) and I met in person with my current PI. I was then informed by mail about the final result.

I have sent the email inquiring about position directly to the principal investigator.
We've been talking via Skype ~1 hour, discussing my educational background, practical skills, things that I liked in my PhD studies and things that I am proud of. Then he described his lab and typical routines.
I got an invitation to attend the on-site interview, but I declined.

- emailed potential mentors with application package and was invited for an on site interview
- standard postdoc interview process - meet with lab students and postdocs & PI
- technical seminar on previous research
- lunch and dinner with lab members
- Boulder is at high-altitude so drink lots of water
