I applied to Unknown Worlds on the 1/9/2025 and was then screened by a recruiter. I then moved on to 1-1 interviews with a senior member of the team on 1/30/25.
The role would be for their upcoming Subnautica 2 game. The interview was overall a warm and engaging conversation. They asked me about my proudest projects and what games I was playing. The real interview began when they started asking me about what kinds of level design I'd done in the past, if I have a preference for designing nature/organic levels vs. hard surface architectural levels.
The next day I got an email from the recruiter with the news I would not be moving forward, but he did provide feedback.
In hindsight, I did go too deeply into the level scripting side of LD and I didn't emphasize designing layouts and working with geometry, at least that's my best guess.
To aspiring LD applicants: make sure you make it clear what your specialization is for these roles and if you want to be hired, really hammer it home that you are a world builder and not a general LD.
