Interview
The interview process was relatively straightforward. I interviewed with my direct manager who then requested that I be interviewed by the CEO. Up until this point, it was totally normal in terms of the process, though I was surprised that they didn't want to see my work in action through an assignment.
Meeting the CEO was when everything changed. The first thing that seemed off was that the CFO was in the interview. She looked at me like a statue the entire time and really only shook her head and laughed at anything I had to say. It's possible that the CEO trusts her opinion, which is why she was invited to the interview, but it was totally off-putting for me, especially since she stared at me the entire time.
Things took a turn for the worse when I realized that this was the first time that the CEO was looking at my resume. He proceeded to ask me questions about every job I'd ever had, and why I had left. This is pretty standard, but still there was no reference to the skills that I acquired at each job and he didn't ask that I present different scenarios that I'd encountered at previous workplaces.
The interview seemed like roast, to be completely honest. After telling me: "It seems that you're applying based on your potential and not your experience," the CEO later mentioned that he hires people based on their potential. He also mentioned that it was a junior position, after reviewing my salary question, which was not mentioned by the direct manager nor stipulated in the job description.
I left the interview very distraught and completely certain that I didn't want to work under such a demeaning individual. It seemed to me that he creates a culture of fear at the company he manages and tends to immaturely develop an idea of what a certain person is worth before ever getting to know them.
