      Tutor Interview

      9 Aug 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at VIPKid in July 2017

      Interview

During the first interview I was extended an offer. It was not made clear that the offer was dependent on my performance on two mock classes. The interview itself was easy and short. Then I was given materials and information to prepare for a mock class. I spent a ton of time and energy reviewing videos and preparing and the first mock went fairly well. A teacher acted like a student and then reviewed me. She was competent and I understood her feedback. So I spent more time and money to prepare for a second mock class. The teacher was incompetent and told me to do the OPPOSITE of what the slides said and then said I obviously had not prepared or read the slides. I literally did exactly what the slides said. I immediately put my office back the way I like it and took back all the stuff I purchased. It seemed very disorganized and the second teacher did not seem like she knew what she was doing. I've taught online for 6 years and this organization seems to be asking a lot and not providing any guidance or training. I don't want a slap on the wrist for doing exactly what I was told. I would steer clear of this place. Oh and the teachers get money for referring other tutors so I am suspect of all the glowing reviews. I mean if I was getting paid to get people to work at VIPKID I would leave great reviews as well...
