      Software Engineer Interview

      19 July 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Oakland, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at VSCO (Oakland, CA) in Apr 2019

      Interview

A recruiter reached out to me by email to set up some time to talk about the role. Following the initial outreach was a short call with the hiring manager, then a standard one-hour CoderPad technical interview online with a VSCO engineer. They asked me to come in for an onsite which consisted of 4-5 sessions with a mix of engineers and other staff. The sessions varied in length but averaged about an hour. The technical sessions were a mix of software architecture questions and standard whiteboarding data structures and algorithms. They were challenging but not too excruciating- the most difficult being a graph traversal question. Interleaved were shorter meetings with non-engineers where (I think) they tried to assess character and soft skills. These sessions were surprisingly pleasant and offered a great way to learn more about the role and company. Overall, it was the best interview I've experienced. VSCO staff were transparent about the process and respectful of my time. All the staff I met seemed like genuinely good people. VSCO's humanness was one of the most significant factors which led me to accept their offer.

      Interview

Got contacted by VSCO, short phone screen then on-site interview with 3 teams of two people, 1 hour each. Questions covered a wide area of topics, typical questions, basic data structures and algorithms, nothing crazy. After the teams finished I talked with the CEO and CTO. Everyone was super nice.
