      Test Prep Tutor Interview

      8 Sept 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Varsity Tutors (New York, NY) in Sept 2020

      Interview

Online app (no resume/cover letter) followed by a short video interview via HireVue. Really don't like this format for teaching as there is so much you can demonstrate by talking to an actual or fake student. Was offered the job and would have taken it, but it only pays $15 per hour as a contractor (so, estimate half will go to taxes). I was offered $18 per hour as brand new test prep teacher in 2010. And that's with an established curriculum and as a payroll employee. This pay is ludicrously low for the skills they're asking for
