      Software Engineer Interview

      21 Mar 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Vercel in Dec 2025

      Interview

First round was a rate limiter question and the interview helped through the "gotcha" behind it. She was super friendly and kind. The onsite was a mess. I had one leg of the onsite, which I felt went smoothly. The interviewer even noted at the end that we had "checked all the boxes" required for the session. Their prep instructions for this interview were quite inconsistent; one part of the portal mentioned a typical DS&A question, but elsewhere, in fine print, it asked to come prepared with a pre-coded working website. Luckily, I caught that 15 minutes before the start and was able to prepare. However, the second day of interviews were very frustrating. My system design interview was postponed due to an interviewer's childcare emergency, so we rescheduled. Then, the other interview scheduled for today was abruptly cancelled a few hours later. Hours later, I received a generic email from the recruiter stating they are not moving forward. I asked for them to elaborate considering the amount of time I’ve taken to interview with them, to no avail. Frankly, I find this highly unprofessional. I spent significant time preparing (including setting up an environment locally for the second interview), and for the process to end this way after multiple scheduling issues is a waste of my time. I had heard reports online about Vercel having a poor recruiting process and I’m disappointed to have experienced it firsthand.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Vercel in Apr 2026

      Interview

Got contacted by a recruiter multiple times. I finally saw it and responded. We setup a time to talk. When it came time to talk, he ghosted me. Never heard from him again. Very unprofessional. If their interview process is indicative of the actual job, i would steer clear.

      Interview

I hope this doesn't come off as bitter, angry, etc - I merely feel compelled to say something about Vercel's current initial assessment. It requires access to your desktop, which is standard and acceptable to me. It also requires your camera to be on, which I can grudgingly accept if the company is of high-caliber and all else is reasonable. I take issue when one compounds the above with the following: The instructions state that you must stay in view of the screen at all times, not use other devices, and not take breaks off screen (bathroom breaks or otherwise). Note that the assessment is an hour and 30 minutes long. I personally prefer to fail miserably than cheat on an interview, however I can think of at least 5 different ways that a candidate could skirt those rules. I think requiring such stringency on candidates is unfair, especially so given that cheating is still possible.

I closed the test early, but wouldn't state questions here regardless.

Initial phone screen then an online coding challenge. The coding challenge wasn't too hard, but I still wasn't able to get it all and so they decided not to follow through with me.
