I had a phone interview with the SEC manager which seemingly went really well and was asked shortly after to come into the corporate headquarters for an in-person interview. It turned out to be nearly an all day affair in which I was bludgeoned and grilled by seven different interviewers. Still, I thought the interviews all went well, despite being nearly exhausted once it finally over and having driven 80 miles round trip. I was told by a couple of the interviewers that my background was very strong and so was my resume. Nevertheless, I was rejected for the positions I applied for, apparently because I was no longer a good fit a mere week after being told that I was. No reimbursement for the mileage, no thank you call/email from the hiring manager/interviewers to thank me for my time which required me to miss an entire day of work from my current employer.
