I applied through other source. I interviewed at Victoria Advocate
Interview
I met with a few staffers from each department in the newsroom: reporting staff, editors, designers, copy editors and talked about my skill set and what I hoped to achieve while employed at the Advocate
The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Victoria Advocate
Interview
I was approached by someone working within the organization about applying for a job. I was extremely put off by the managing editor's micromanagement of the process and truly felt insulted by him. I have since heard numerous complaints about the organization and several first hand accounts of a terrible working environment. I'm glad that the editor was so frustrating, as it determined I would never have to work for him.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Victoria Advocate (Victoria, TX) in June 2012
Interview
It's an intense two-day process and you meet with everyone in the newsroom. Everyone wants to meet with you and let you know how things work. You attend budget meetings and they let you get a feel for a typical day. I think they want to see you get tired, and make sure you're not going to lose steam toward the end. Positivity is paramount. The managers take you out to breakfast, lunch and dinner at some fairly nice restaurants, and they give you free lodging at a nice Victorian condo for a few days while you're going through the interview.
