In the course of a job application process for a Sr. SEO Manager role, the company's HR contact requested free SEO consulting under the guise of an "SEO assessment." The questions asked were many, complex and particular to their web property, its performance and history.
In other words, actual SEO and user engagement issues they face today. Good answers would take hours of investigation and analysis, dependent upon data unavailable to any outside resource, in addition to a knowledge of the company's strategic direction and goals.
In response, I did my very best to walk them through my differential thinking and considerations that could be explored. Two days after delivering a brief on the matter, I received an automated message that they have no positions for me at this time. That's it.
BEWARE! It seems they're trying to mine knowledgeable applicants for free advisements, rather than make a qualified hire. Don't invest your expertise and free time in good faith.
