I interviewed with the CEO and the commercial director. No interview format, no intros apart from job titles, nothing about who they are, their vision or what they do. We’re talking basic stuff here.
Immediately I was asked direct questions about the company I work currently which was strange. Then more questions about my role.
The CEO is the kind of guy that likes the sound of his own voice too much. He loved repeating the line ‘we hire the best of the best’.
We reached an epic level when he asked why I think I’m the best of the best compared to other candidates and why they should hire me. I tried hard not to laugh - given I was interviewing for a senior management position.
After 30min of interrogation, I was able to ask two questions trying to get some sense of what’s the company structure, how do the tech teams work, how many they are, etc. - we’re talking basic stuff.
Clearly there’s nobody technical in this company, apart from some engineers. No answers about their products either apart from vague nothingness.
Second question was on company culture. I got the ‘best of the best’ answer once again from the CEO who talked about the benefits of having an open plan kitchen (!) in this amazing new office because they provide the best for the best of the best. Clearly the guy missed the whole point.
Needless to say, I turned down any thought of working with the new Zuckerberg of video and accepted an offer from some serious startuppers.
