I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Walgreens (Highlands Ranch, CO) in July 2013
Interview
I moved from California to Colorado on a Friday and I applied online the next day because my friend said they had an opening. Finished the simple application and then at the end of the application it tells you to complete the second part of the application in store. Before you go to the store make sure to dress business-casual, even though you're not going for the interview, you still want to make a good impression.
So I went to the store next day (make sure to go in when the manager is in), finished my skills assessment within 20minutes and then the assistant manager came out and reviewed my answers I believe. Asked if I could interview right then and there. The interview took about an hour because he had an assistant manager in training sit in on the interview and explained to her why he was asking me certain questions. I got offered the job on the spot.
In the beginning of the application I must have hit "over 21" and that messed up my whole application because my birthday didn't match, they couldn't do a background check, OOPS! They cleared my application and had me redo that and the assessment but not the interview. :)
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They only asked situational questions and my manager had made up his own.
An item is on sale for $.99 and is usually $2.50. A customer picks it up and before they ring out, they decide they don't want it anymore. They place it in a spot that says it's $.39. That customer pays and leaves the store.
The next customer in line sees the product that is usually $2.50 to $.39 and goes "wow! what a great deal!" They pick it up and bring it to you. You scan it, ring it up, and the total comes out to $1.07 with tax. The person says "no, this was $.39" And you follow them to where they found it and see it was in the wrong spot. You explain to them that someone must have left it there on accident but the customer refuses to pay the $1. As this is going on your line has grown to 5 people.
As an associate, you aren't allowed to make any price changes unless you have the manager's approval. So you call over the manager and she says "i'm too busy, handle it yourself." And by this time your line has grown to 20 people.
Very relaxed and comfortable. They were very open to questions I had and everyone seemed to enjoy working there. The store manage was very understanding with my
School schedule. Everyone was very nice and helpful and patient

I interviewed as a student in college and they understood my goal as a part time employee. They worked with my schedule and provided the right amount of training I needed for the job.
