I applied to Principal / Lead SDET position and HR contacted me just in a day, it was a pleasant and good talk and I had a huge expectations from this opportunity. However, they proposed me to make a task in Terraform (yes, completely DevOps task that has nothing to do with SDET or any QA-related role). I did it and they invited me to the second round and meantime they renamed a position to Principal Tooling Engineer. Tech interview went horrible, there were two technical engineers in DevOps area who insisted they're working on QA tooling in their departments. I had zero questions about software development or testing, QA tooling or testing approaches, building teams or Agile methodologies, but everything only related on Terraform! When I asked why there were no questions about testing/SDET for this role, they arrogantly replied that since the person understood Terraform, then he would definitely understand the tests o_0 !!! This is incredibly disrespectful to the profession I'm in for 11+ years and I'm absolutely sure they have a chaos in QA automation area with this kind of principal engineers. After this talk nobody came to me with any feedback even if it was very clear this is the end of our talk.
