First step is an HR screening; the discussion was basic, just basic questions about my background and what I'm seeking, plus a basic description of the position. Also included discussion of my salary requirement and their salary budget. Next step was a hiring manager interview that was in depth about the position and its responsibilities, but whereas HR gave a $10K salary budget range, the hiring supervisor reported a salary budget at the low end of that range with no flexiblity. When I circled back to HR with a suggested salary, HR unexpectedly said the low end salary included a nonguaranteed bonus. A lot of time and effort could have been saved if HR had been more clear and more forthright about salary and bonus.
