      Systems Administrator Interview

      15 May 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Menomonee Falls, WI
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at WorkWise (Menomonee Falls, WI)

      Interview

TLDR; Be wary of hiring process and advocate for your value from who you are today. Rapid interview process, wanted to fill two new positions. Hiring manager seemed impressed with background, continued to compliment and expressing interest in moving forward. Brought in for on site interview with some customer product representatives and facility tour. We discussed how hiring direct employees leads to employee professional development, healthy company relationships and mutual value to company. The hiring manager presented an offer letter asking if any questions and giving me a few days to review and respond. Offer(matched most recent salary from employment application) was below market average(also not in range from 'desired salary' in employment application) so I inquired via email if negotiable or flexible and cited my interest, optimism of adding value and appreciation for the company culture. Next day the hiring manager called me stating they were taken aback at the inquiry, expressed feeling cornered, asked what my previous salary was and said that an increase in pay was a reward for initial performance review. There was no interest in discussing the offer, mention of any potential tweaks, or even that the offer was firm. My attempts to clarify the miscommunication failed and the initial offer was withdrawn. I wished them good luck and stated that if the situation changed to let me know. The experience was a complete 180 after being given an offer then time to think it over and respond or follow up. Hiring talent is a process in business where two parties compromise to define a mutually beneficial contract or solution towards a common goal. I doubt the sales team is directed to accept any if not every unreasonably lower than MSRP offers from customers.
