Needs Improvement in Compliance Awareness.
The interview process overall was average, but there was a concerning lapse in how compliance-sensitive questions were handled during the conversation.
I was asked about my specific work status in Canada. They listed out multiple possible work statuses and asked me to identify which specific one I held, rather than simply asking whether legal authorization to work in Canada.
This level of specificity was unnecessary and inappropriate for an interview setting. If the company needed to confirm work authorization, the question could have been limited to that. If the concern was travel or location requirements, they could have asked whether I was able to travel to the required locations.
For a company operating across Canada and the U.S., this type of question should be clearly standardized and interviewers should be trained on how to ask eligibility-related questions properly. It raised concerns for me about internal alignment on interview guidelines and compliance awareness.
Future applicants may want to be aware of how work authorization questions are framed during the process. Overall, I hope this feedback helps the company improve interviewer training and ensure hiring conversations stay focused, consistent, and appropriate.
