      Software Engineer Interview

      2 Mar 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Yummly in Feb 2018

      Interview

Spoke with a recruiter from Whirlpool who has visited the Yummly office but does not work out of it. Nice person, but couldn't answer any of my questions about the company or role, beyond telling me "I don't know, you should look at their website." The recruiter also read from a list of technical questions, and was not able to provide any clarification about those either.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We're sorry you had this experience, as our goal is to create an incredible interviewing process. After all, we've all been on your side of the interview table and understand how difficult it is. We want to ensure that every candidate shows their best self. And in your case, we blew it. We tried a new approach that didn't leave you feeling great. However, we took your comments seriously and adjusted appropriately. Thank you again! Best of luck with your search.

Initial interview with dev team, interview with senior engineer, interview with HR and senior team leads. Interview process took ~6hrs total (over several days), then was told I'd hear back in a couple days. Didn't hear back for weeks. Not the only interviewer who's had a this experience.

      Question 1

Technical questions focused on their tech stack, a lot of non technical/culture-fit questions.

      Software Engineer Interview

      20 Mar 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Redwood City, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Yummly (Redwood City, CA) in Feb 2018

      Interview

All process went well, organization and people were respectful and polite during interview. I were interviewed by 6 people, 3 of them join company 3-4 months ago. The process of interview between "newcomers" and people who were working there for a while were different. Newcomers were not really interested, and from my perspective were just formally asking questions. Other 3 interviewers were really involved and asking questions and describing their daily jobs. Other nice thing I heard that all of them like to cook. Well, may be that's why I were rejected. There were no real CS/algorithmic questions from technical side. I were asked about traversing tree and writing lazy-seq on clojure. There was no feedback on interview that I'm doing something wrong or I'm giving incorrect answer. Only one thing I definitely failed with was mixing tree-seq and post-walk function in clojure, not sure if it really matters. In conclusion, I think it was just bad moment to join company or may be company has culture agreement that I'm not fit in.
