      Document Control Interview

      4 Oct 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Zymergen

      Interview

First phone interview was about 20-30 minutes long very relaxed. Second interview was 5 hours long and met with 6 people. Third interview was a video call with 5 more people for an additional 5 hour interview. In the end they told me they decided to go in a different direction with the position and they thought I was overqualified. This all after they made an offer and were asking me to start asap. The entire process lacked professionalism and the communication was poor. This all happened over the course of 4-6 weeks, before they could tell me they had decided to not develop the position. I waited, because I was in no hurry, but for someone looking to transition quickly this might not be a good option. On my way out of the in person interview a new employee bumped into and told me it wasn't a company I wanted to work for, I did not understand why. The panel themselves later confirmed their high turn over rate and it could be due to lack of communication. In my last phone call with the hiring person, they did tell me the company is not one I wanted to work for either. Overall very odd experience.
