      Business Manager Interview

      10 July 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at bareMinerals (San Francisco, CA) in June 2015

      Interview

Eleven interviews. First contacted by recruiter for phone screening. Passed on to supervisor for 1 hour phone interview. Called back for day of in-person interviews (10am-1pm), meeting with 6 individuals consecutively (30 mins each). These interviews consisted mainly of presenting my background and experience to each person and answering their questions. With very little time for my questions about the company, culture, process or expectations, it was challenging to piece together a clear picture of what this somewhat ambiguous role consists of, but through multiple conversations, clarity started to emerge. Apparently they liked me because they called me back for phone interviews with their field leaders - 3 more phone interviews. Following these was 1 more in-person interview back at their offices. Throughout the process everyone was extremely nice and friendly, however, I get the impression that they are somewhat disorganized and overworked. After 10 weeks and 11 interviews they told me my background was not what they were looking for. When asked for more clarification, I was told that they don't really know what they're looking for. Advice to B.E.: Have a clear picture of what you're seeking in your candidate before starting the process. Also, treat interviews as a two-way conversation, as candidates are also exploring whether or not the position/company will be a good fit for them. Try to limit the redundancy of multiple quick individual interviews - one group panel interview would be preferable, as it's difficult to remain authentic when reciting the same background information over and over and over...
