Recruiter, then hiring manager, then assigned a project, then vibe check with coworkers.
The project involved visiting their facilities and giving operational recommendations on improving the experience. I would not suggest doing this project as this is just providing free work that they will take advantage of.
I’m honestly relieved not to be moving forward. The entire experience felt more like a highly produced brand environment than a mission-driven nonprofit. Between the heavy focus on the founder’s personal story and the overall tone of the space, it came across as more performative than impact-centered. It raised real questions for me about priorities and how the work is actually grounded.
I also found the lack of clarity around decision-making, success metrics, and leadership structure concerning. It didn’t inspire confidence in how the organization operates internally, and it felt reflective of a top-down approach that wouldn’t be a fit for how I work.
