I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at flaconi (Berlin) in May 2024
Interview
My conversation with HR was great. But for the technical interview.
First, some of the interviewers were late to the meeting.
Secondly, I'd expect an interview for a fullstack role to ask fullstack questions. 90% of the questions asked were about frontend and react, including the coding challenge. That's a biased test.
Thirdly, 1.5 hours was allocated for the technical interview. If you know you plan to also conduct a live coding challenge, you should at least allocate enough time for that. I was grilled for over an hour. Then 10 mins to deadline, I was told there's a coding challenge. The challenge itself will require at least 30 mins to complete. Cos it required building a whole app. Not merely writing 5-10 lines of code.
Fourthly, I was accused of looking up answers to questions. I assume because most of my answers were correct. Also, there was content nagging about not sharing my screen. It's as if the interviewers assume I was going to cheat my way through. That's just wierd and disrespectful.
Fifth point is that while I was answering a question asked by one of the developers, the team lead cut in without apology. I think that's rude.
Sixth point is that if you schedule a call with a candidate, the least you can do is make sure your Internet is steady to avoid communication issues.
And lastly, in the course of the interview, the interviewers were laughing/smiling at each other or at something. I assume they weren't laughing at me. But regardless, that's just inappropriate.
I'm aware that the 5 minutes I spent on the coding challenge could have gone better. And that's probably the reason for the rejection despite at least 90% accuracy in the Q&A. But having been interrogated for over an hour, I'd think that can be expected. Understandably it's employer's market.
Overall, it was a terrible interview experience
