I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at how.fm (Cologne) in May 2023
Interview
Applied via Linkedin, get introdution call and then a home take assignment 1 hour given repository where we have to do fix bugs and add some additional functionality to an existing project. After that a HR interview about all others queries about salary, location etc. After that got generic rejection email.
The job advertisement as the time of writing this review says
- "We primarily work remotely and encourage all our team to work where it suits them."
- "[...] excellent written and verbal communication for collaboration in a remote-first environment."
So I applied online to this remote position. I was sent a questionnaire querying my past experience, why I want to join, salary expectations, about a time where I found a bug in PR etc. I sent a reply and got an invitation to first call. 25 minutes into this interview after we talk about all the details, the interviewer asks if I am willing to relocate to Cologne. I answer I live in Berlin and can come to the office once a month but I will not move to another city. And then they say then there's no point moving forward. I point out that the job description says it's a remote position. The answer I get is "yeah but things have changed so we want someone in the office." And then they go "It would have been better if we asked it before."
A complete waste of time. Also, their recruitment process is:
- Questionnaire
- First interview
- Take home task
- Interview with CEO
- Pair programming
- Another interview
All this for embedding videos and creating quizzes...
