I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at iRobot
Interview
Two phone screens, one with HR, one with Hiring manager. Then invited for multi-person interview at HQ in Bedford. I asked if lack of consumer product management as an issue and was told by two interviewers it is a non-issue due to solid product management skill set. Hiring manager asked many process questions as he identified interest was around thought process. Next interview was with an existing product manager, I asked the same questions that the hiring manager asked me. The existing product manager answered with near identical answers tomine. Next person was product marketing, keen on knowing if I knew difference between product marketing and product management, offered business card for post interview follow-up questions.
Post interview sent I sent "Thank you" notes and a follow-up question to product marketing person about suggestion for target market for product growth. Thinking that the person is busy waited a few a week then sent a follow-up note, no response. Active pursuit by me to follow-up with HR, was told I did not have a consumer background therefore they were looking at other candidates. So the response on why I was declined is cause for negative review, if lack of consumer background was a gating factor, never should of been invited for onsite interviews.

Question 1
How would I approach getting future requirements for consumer product?
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at iRobot (Burlington, MA) in May 2022
Interview
The interview process was lengthy to say the least. Call with HR, then the hiring manager + a few others. Then they sent a product to use to prepare a presentation on how you'd continue to develop the product. Then an in person, 8 hr marathon with cross functional team + your presentation.
It's a pretty massive time sink for someone who already has a full time job. . .
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at iRobot (Bedford, MA) in July 2018
Interview
Screening from recruiter, phone call with hiring manager, brought in for interview . The hiring manager clearly didn't know what they were looking for. They were looking for agile but what they described was far from it. Respect where they are trying to go, but would have been nice knowing their current challenges before taking a half day off to interview.
