It was a juniour physical design application engineer role. They started the process with the AE manager in a zoom call. The interviewer has memorized a few questions before the meeting and just asked one after the other without actually having open discussion or trying to see what my thinking process is

Initial screening with a recruiter over the phone (asked basic questions about my background in the industry), a phone interview with a manager of a verification group (he asked more in-depth background questions than the recruiter) and two technical interviews (each interview was two hours with 2 staff members)

Interview
I went through five interviews and passed all the technical stages, including coding and system design, but the later HR rounds felt off. I was asked things like naming three negative traits, and then told I wasn’t “professional enough,” which didn’t make much sense given I’d already cleared the earlier rounds. When I pointed that out, it was taken as me being cocky, which wasn’t my intention at all. It also felt like they were trying to downplay my experience to justify why my salary expectations didn’t fit, instead of just having a straightforward conversation about them not willing to pay.
