      Interview

You start by being baited on the Linkedin job, The salary is of course very attractive (130k euros) so you know (and them as well) that there will be tens of people applying, they have to filter applicants somehow, I get it. So you send your resume on their online platform. Before you are allowed to speak to a human, they will send you a difficult but doable code challenge to do in 9 hours on your own time. You have 2 attempts (clearly written in the description), after the 1st one they give you some hints if you didn't succeed. Their requirements are very strict but nothing extraordinary if you are comfortable in C++17. I started wrapping my head around the problem for ~1 hour, then writing my tests, which took about 1 hour, and then wrote and optimized the algorithm in ~3 hour. They will not care about your tests, only about your algorithm. The challenge was actually quite nice, I enjoyed it, but didn't meet their requirements in the end. Some guys here were hurt on their ego because they didn't pass, well that's to be expected! I didn't know much about think-cell, but unfortunately some previous guys before me were right : it is a very impersonal process that doesn't care about anything else than if you can code a 100% error-free algorithm by yourself without being able to see the tests or run them. A rep from the HR team has written here on Glassdoor that the tests "give a potential candidate the possibility to learn more about the work process at think-cell". I'll let you decide if you think this is a good software development process :) I understand they have to filter applicants in an automated way, but it's a bit awkward that job advertisement practices like the LinkedIn baiting is why they have to do this filtering in the first place. Even Microsoft and other giants will let you talk to a human when you do your code challenge... Like some previous guy wrote, Prepare your environment completely before. Have a test framework ready and compile your code with Godbolt because the requirement says to use g++ 7.2.

Dear Candidate, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience in such detail. We regret that you did not have a positive experience with our hiring procedure. At the same time, glad that you enjoyed the coding challenge. Our recruitment process has proven to get the best candidates as future employees. We believe that every applicant needs to get an opportunity to attempt the challenge irrespective of their qualification /experience. This emphasis fairness in our process, which we are proud of, and streamlines our interview process. We totally understand that, on the other hand, the personal touch at the first stage is eliminated. As said before, this is a deliberate decision in terms of equality and fairness of assessment. Once a candidate passes the programming test, there are several interviews with Senior Developers as well as our founder & CTO. Besides being checked for technical knowledge, they will also have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss position-related topics. Thank you again for your feedback. We wish you all the absolute best in your future endeavours. Kind regards think-cell HR team.

      Interview

After spending hours to do a test - they reject the application without even bothering providing feedback (and that despite the fact the test was well done and passing all the tests) - that is not a professional behavior and lacks respect for the time people invest in the process.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you found the process frustrating, especially considering the time and effort you invested. We understand how important it is for candidates to feel that their work is acknowledged and respected. We understand that not receiving detailed feedback can create the impression that your effort was not fully recognized. However, providing specific feedback on the assessment would compromise the integrity of our evaluation process and our ability to apply it consistently to all candidates. We appreciate your understanding in this regard. Best regards, People Team

      Interview

First it was a coffee chat and then a 10h technical assesment, without any feedback for their side. It was frustrating because after investing a lot of time, they don't even tell you nothing.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the process felt frustrating. We aim to create a recruitment experience that is both fair and respectful of candidates’ time. Our technical test is designed to assess problem-solving skills in a realistic way and help us identify the strong technical abilities required to maintain the high standards of think-cell’s products. The platform allows up to 10 hours to complete the task to give candidates flexibility, for example to take breaks if needed. In practice, many candidates complete and submit their solutions within around 2–4 hours. Regarding feedback, we also understand that not receiving detailed comments on a submission can feel disappointing. Unfortunately, providing specific feedback on the assessment would compromise the integrity of our evaluation process and our ability to continue using this test consistently with all candidates. We appreciate your understanding on this matter. Best regards, People Team
