I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at trivago (Düsseldorf) in July 2015
Interview
I've applied online, after few days I've received from Trivago the admission task – Case Study. I had to create a concept for Trivago communications team that explains roughly what they do and how their website works. I had 5 days to create the concept and a chance to choose to make an Infographic, Microsite, Animation or flyer.
After 2 weeks I've received a negative "generic" response that my Case Study was not selected. I did not get a detailed response why and what they expected – this particular aspect I didn't appreciate.
I've spent 5 days working on a concept (not payed) so at least I've expected to get a detail response not a generic one:
"Unfortunately we have to inform you that we have decided not to take your application into further account. We are really sorry that we cannot give you a positive feedback and kindly ask you for your understanding."

Interview
The interview process went very well and was prompt in the response times. I was asked to complete a Case Study and was offered a Skype interview after 3 business days. The interview was thorough, so make sure you take notes and have your CV ready. My interviewer spent time talking about her position, the company culture, and the plans for trivago's growth in the future. I sent a thank you email and was given a second interview after 1 business day. That one was more casual with a person on my team, talking about Dusseldorf and trivago as a company. The following Monday I was offered the position and was offered Onboarding support immediately.
