What You’ll Be Doing

The Principal Data Engineer provides deep technical leadership and expertise across the Data & Analytics function, ensuring consistency, quality, and engineering excellence across multiple teams. This role operates across the Data Platform, Shared Services, Analytics and Delivery teams, working in partnership with Managers and Tech Leads to uplift engineering standards, reduce systemic technical risk, and support complex or cross cutting technical challenges. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of modern data architectures, cloud-based big data solutions, and DataOps methodologies.

Key responsibilities include:

• Acting as a trusted technical advisor across architecture, design and engineering standards
• Defining and evolving development standards, patterns and best practices
• Providing design assurance for critical data solutions and platform direction
• Identifying and addressing systemic technical risks across teams
• Supporting teams to balance short-term delivery with long-term sustainability

What Sets You Apart

We’d love to hear from professionals who…..

• Have a Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Advanced, hands on experience as a senior or principal level data engineer in large scale data environments

• Strong expertise in modern cloud based data platforms (e.g. Lakehouse architectures, distributed data processing)

• Demonstrated experience defining engineering standards and guiding multiple teams without direct authority

• Deep understanding of data pipeline reliability, performance optimisation, and operational excellence
