Formerly a simple sunroof maker, ASC works with carmakers to provide full-service design and development of specialty vehicles -- roof and body systems -- through its Creative Services and Open Air Systems divisions. ASC has brought many car models to life, including the Chevy SSR, Toyota Camry Solara, and the Dodge Viper coupe. Other customers include BMW, Ford, and Honda. With its unique approach, ASC can help a car company reinvigorate a tired brand. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2007 and was sold the following year to private equity firm Hancock Park Associates.
