Regional grocery chain Acme Markets operates more than 115 supermarkets under the Acme and Acme Sav-on banners in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. It's the #2 food and drug retailer (behind Wakefern Food-owned ShopRite) in the competitive Philadelphia market, where it competes with local chains, including A&P-owned Pathmark and Giant. In addition to its bricks-and-mortar operations, Acme offers online grocery ordering for its customers. Founded in 1891, Acme Markets is owned by SUPERVALU, which acquired it from Albertsons in 2006. Acme's strong market position made it one of Albertsons' more valuable properties.
