Aware takes an intellectual approach to the DSL market. The company, which sells hardware and software used to make asymmetric DSL equipment, derives some of its revenue from contract design services and licensing fees for its ADSL semiconductor intellectual property designs. Aware's products help telephone companies upgrade their systems without replacing transmission lines. Aware additionally develops biometrics and imaging software for identification and other security functions. The company derives more than half of its revenue from the US. Aware sells to OEM suppliers, systems integrators, telecom networks, and telecom equipment vendors, as well as to end users, including government agencies.
