Azure Dynamics (AZD) has a blue-sky vision for how to make heavy vehicles run in an ecologically friendly way. The development-stage company designs energy management systems for use in commercial vehicles. AZD's hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) control systems include both vehicle management software and controllers used with a variety of drive components. Customers and partners include Canada Post, the US Postal Service, Federal Express, and Purolator Courier. As part of efforts to build a US battery supply base and infrastructure support for hybrid electric vehicles, AZD signed a five-year agreement with lithium-ion suppliers Johnson Controls-SAFT (a joint venture) in early 2009.
