Typically serving customers with little cash and poor credit, it runs a UK-based web site that offers rentals of consumer electronics, such as TVs, DVD players, home theater systems, under the Sanyo, Sony, Panasonic, and Philips names. It also rents Hotpoint and Whirlpool washers and driers. Box Clever rents to individuals as well as businesses the likes of The BBC and Tesco. Its required minimum rental period is 18 months for all of its products. Historically, Box Clever was a bricks and mortar retailer, but long ago shut down its rent-to-own outlets in an effort to combat sluggish sales.
