Description Authority in the capital city of Texas might reside with the people's elected representatives, but when it comes to people-moving, Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority takes charge. Capital Metro provides bus transportation services in the Austin, Texas, area. Funded mostly by a local sales tax, the agency transports about 140,000 passengers daily on more than 90 routes with its fleet of 500 vehicles. Capital Metro also contracts to provide shuttle bus services for the University of Texas at Austin. The agency provides park-and-ride services, special event shuttles, and special transit services for people with disabilities. It started its long-awaited commuter rail service in March 2010.
