Cardinal Communications has flown from one business venture to the other. The company previously focused on real estate development in Colorado and communication services. However, in 2007 Cardinal's real estate and communications subsidiaries experienced financial difficulties, filed for bankruptcy, and were liquidated. Cardinal Communications itself filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy the following year. The company is attempting to get a fresh start. It moved headquarters and formed the subsidiary Canadian Homes to begin developing an apartment/condominium complex in Canadian, Texas. Cardinal is moving forward with a focus on construction and development in small underserved markets.
